As a Tutor, you will work one-on-one with elementary, middle, or high school students in the San Ramon/Tri-Valley area, with options for both in-person and online sessions. Your primary responsibility will be to provide clear, effective, and engaging instruction in your area(s) of expertise. You will be a key mentor in helping students excel in their coursework, prepare for exams, and develop strong, lasting study skills.

Hourly Wage: $20-35/hr

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized, expert tutoring sessions in your specific subjects of expertise.
  • Assess each student's unique needs, learning style, and academic goals to create and implement tailored learning plans.
  • Develop instructional materials, such as practice worksheets and curriculum guides, to structure learning and reinforce key concepts.
  • Explain complex topics and course material in a clear, patient, and accessible manner.
  • Assist students with homework, assignments, test preparation, and other academic requirements.
  • Foster a positive, encouraging, and productive learning environment that allows each student to thrive and build confidence.
  • Maintain professional, punctual, and effective communication with parents and staff regarding student progress and scheduling.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated Subject Mastery: Proven expertise in the subject(s) you wish to teach, evidenced by high academic grades, top standardized test scores, or relevant certifications.
  • Teaching/Tutoring Experience: Prior experience providing instruction, either one-on-one or in group settings, is required.
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills: A genuine ability to connect with students, build rapport, and communicate with patience, kindness, and empathy.
  • Professionalism and Responsibility: Must be reliable, punctual, and highly responsible in all aspects of the role.
  • Familiarity with Local Curricula: Knowledge of the curricula used in local school districts, especially the San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD), is highly preferred.
  • (For Online Tutors) Tech Proficiency: Access to and proficiency with online teaching tools (e.g., digital whiteboards like Jamboard, a writing tablet/stylus, etc.).
  • (For In-Person Tutors) Transportation: Access to reliable transportation for travel to and around the Tri-Valley region for in-person sessions.
