fab2, an ambitious hardware startup in Austin, TX, seeks a Turbomachinery Design Engineer to design, iterate, and build vacuum systems for semiconductor fabrication. You will own end-to-end processes, integrating mechanical, optical, and electronic components, and move fast with real production needs.

The role emphasizes hands-on development, a portfolio of built projects, and close collaboration with process, electrical, software, and production teams. Startup environment with broad impact.

Qualifications

• 2-7 years of professional experience in mechanical and electromechanical system design.
• 2-7 years of hands-on experience building, prototyping, and assembling complex systems.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or Physics.
• Experience in designing vacuum systems or fluid handling hardware.
• Strong fundamentals in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.
• Demonstrated ability to design and ship machined and fabricated metal parts into working systems.
• Comfortable working with pumps, valves, fittings, tubing, chambers, and thermal systems.

Responsibilities

• Own semiconductor fabrication systems and subsystems end-to-end, including deposition, etch, annealing, and plasma tools, as well as subsystems such as mass flow controllers, pressure sensors, valves, scroll pumps and turbo pumps.
• Design and iterate on machines and subsystems for semiconductor fabrication
• Create mechanical designs including frames, components, and assemblies
• Partner closely with the process, electrical, software, and production teams
• Source components and materials while working with vendors to meet project specifications
