Job summary

Qualifications

  • Must have valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Experience in maintenance in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work a non-rotating night shift.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the blade block sharpening equipment and support blade block flow to/from Dalton facilities.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on grinding equipment and related machinery.
  • Drive box truck to pick up and deliver blade blocks to tufting facilities.
  • Assist Reliability Techs with job-site preparation and logistics.
  • Enter work orders in CMMS and maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Follow safety rules and LOTO procedures; keep work areas clean.

Job Title Tufting | Maintenance Technician D | 3rd Shift

Position Overview

POSITION OBJECTIVE: Serve the Tufting\/Warping Departments by operating the automated blade block sharpening equipment. Maintain flow of blade block assemblies both to and from the Dalton area carpet facilities.

Shift: Sunday - Thursday 11pm-7am

Essential Duties
  • Understands the basics of equipment operations to support familiarization of facility and operations equipment, including regular maintenance activities
  • Execute general maintenance "GM" activities at the facility level such as repair needs in office areas, bathrooms, building and grounds, etc.
  • Execute routine, defined inspections or setups such as those activities for:
    • Safety & Environmental inspection and reporting
    • Collection and recording of key operational data such as utility meter readings
    • Repetitive parts changes, including those requiring precision measurement and part quality checks
  • Support Reliability Techs C-A in:
    • Job-site preparation and cleanup
    • Collection, delivery, and return of parts and tools
    • PIT Operation during work execution
    • Painting
    • Greasing/lubrication
    • Confined Space & Hot Work Watch
  • Delivery/Pickup of Blade Blocks to tufting facilities
  • Drive box truck to pick up, load, and deliver blade blocks to tufting facilities
  • Manually feed of trays into system
  • Manually remove trays from system
  • Transport tray carts from dock doors to storage, staging, and/or grinding location
  • Swap to new blades when they are flagged by the machine
  • Change grinding wheels
  • Change lubrication and filter
  • Perform preventative maintenance on grinding equipment and other auxiliary equipment
  • Follow job procedures related to operating the blade block grinding station
  • Ensure issue related to this are escalated appropriately.
  • Follow all safety, LOTO, APM, or other related procedures.
  • Keep area clean
  • Put work orders into CMMS system as needed
  • Submit process improvement ideas as needed
  • Attend periodic departmental meetings as well as training that will foster continued job improvement
  • Time management and planning to process blade blocks and deliver finished sets to plants in the Dalton area.
  • Ensure quality of blade blocks as they exit the unit checking for:
    • Sharpness
    • Blade distance
    • Tightness in block
    • Damaged fasteners, blocks or blades
Physical Requirements
  • Sit or stand intermittently for at least 8 to 12 hours
  • Climb steps several times per day
  • Walk through plant several times per day
  • Withstand exposure to changes in both temperature and humidity
  • Apply forces to tools necessary to accomplish the work
Other Requirements
  • Communicate to other employees both in speech and in writing
  • Ensure the work environment is free of harassment and that employees feel free to express problems and concerns
  • Assure compliance of all corporate policies
Critical Knowledge And Skills
  • Drive the Box Truck
  • Safety practices - LOTO, Confined Space, PPE, PIT, Fall Protection, Hoisting & Rigging and Hot Work
  • Calculator and Computer application – work order documentation, parts requisitioning

  • Basic math skills to include

  • Conversion of measurement units
  • Ability to read, interpret, and make simple sketches
  • Basic understanding of tools and their proper uses
  • Precision alignment techniques for indirect coupled elements
  • Power transmission component types, terms, operation, and maintenance
  • Novice troubleshooting of mechanical systems (Basic Troubleshooting of those components technician is assigned to.)
