Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years of experience in trust administration or related fiduciary services.
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, or a related field required
• JD, CTFA, or AFTA designation preferred
• Strong understanding of fiduciary law and South Dakota trust statutes
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a client-first mindset
• Proven ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance standards (FDIC, SD Division of Banking, internal controls)

Responsibilities

• Administer a portfolio of trust accounts with onboarding, annual reviews, and ongoing maintenance to ensure compliance.
• Serve as the primary fiduciary contact for clients, delivering high-touch service and deep relationships.
• Coordinate new account onboarding, ensuring documentation, due diligence, and regulatory requirements are met.
• Respond promptly to client inquiries and elevate complex issues as needed.
• Oversee trust administration: distributions, document preparation, account maintenance, and reporting.
• Collaborate with legal, compliance, operations, and investment teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Prepare documentation and materials for client meetings and presentations.
• Monitor tax reporting and filing in coordination with tax advisors.
• Maintain knowledge of fiduciary law and regulatory changes; implement best practices.
• Support internal process improvements and staff development.
• Supervise and mentor junior trust officers and administrators.

Key Responsibilities

The Trust Officer will play an integral role in managing and administering client relationships. Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Administer a portfolio of trust accounts, including pre-acceptance, onboarding, annual reviews, and ongoing maintenance to ensure compliance with governing documents and applicable laws.
• Serve as the primary fiduciary contact for clients, providing high-touch service and developing deep, trust-based relationships.
• Coordinate new account onboarding, ensuring all documentation, due diligence, and regulatory requirements are satisfied.
• Respond promptly and proactively to client inquiries, anticipate their needs, and elevate complex issues when necessary.
• Oversee trust administration functions, including distributions, document preparation, account maintenance, and reporting.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams—legal, compliance, operations, and investment professionals to deliver integrated client solutions.
• Prepare documentation and materials for client meetings and prospective client presentations.
• Monitor tax reporting and filing requirements in coordination with internal and external tax advisors.
• Maintain current knowledge of fiduciary law, industry trends, and regulatory changes; support the implementation of best practices.
• Contribute to internal process improvements, knowledge sharing, and team training initiatives.
• Supervise, mentor, and support junior trust officers and administrators to ensure operational excellence and professional development.
