Job summary

84 Lumber Company is seeking a Truss Estimator to accurately estimate, design, and prepare roof and floor truss packages in line with current design practices for production.

You will read architectural plans, use MiTek design software, and collaborate with customers, sales teams, and operations to ensure designs are optimized, compliant, and ready for fabrication.

Overview

The Truss Estimator is responsible for accurately estimating, designing, and preparing roof and floor truss packages in accordance with current 84 Components design practices, company policies, and applicable building requirements. This position works closely with customers, sales teams, and internal operations to ensure truss designs are accurate, optimized, complete, and ready for production.

Key Responsibilities

• Read and interpret architectural and structural plans, specifications, and related construction documents to develop accurate roof and floor truss placement layouts.
• Utilize MiTek design software and other applicable engineering tools to design and estimate roof and floor truss systems while ensuring designs are accurate, optimized, and compliant with current 84 Components policies and procedures.
• Review designs for accuracy, constructability, material optimization, and compliance with applicable engineering and company standards.
• Specify all required hardware, accessories, and supplied materials necessary to complete the truss package.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date Job Tracking Sheets throughout the estimating and design process.
• Prepare and send customer approval letters and other required documentation in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Communicate with customers, sales associates, and other internal teams to address questions, clarify plans, resolve design issues, and provide technical and customer support as needed.
• Identify potential design, material, or production issues and communicate them promptly to the appropriate team members.
• Ensure all plans, drawings, revisions, and related documentation are properly logged, organized, and maintained.
• Maintain a neat, organized, and professional office and work environment.
• Participate in required meetings, training, and committees as assigned by supervisor.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
