Altom Transport in Hammond, IN is seeking an experienced Truck & Trailer Mechanic to join our maintenance team. You will perform preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on tractors, tanker trailers, and related equipment with a focus on safety and compliance.

Qualified candidates have experience on diesel engines and tanker trailers, DOT/FMCSA knowledge, and the ability to read work orders and operate in a fast-paced shop environment.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a truck and trailer mechanic preferred.
• Experience on diesel engines and tanker trailers strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of DOT inspection requirements and FMCSA regulations.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on diesel tractors and tanker trailers
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and air brake systems
• Conduct DOT inspections and ensure compliance with safety standards
• Repair suspension, lighting, ABS systems, tires, wheel seals, and other components
• Troubleshoot engine performance and drivability concerns
• Complete work orders and maintenance documentation accurately
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
• Work collaboratively with drivers, operations, and other shop personnel
• Respond to breakdowns or emergency repairs when needed

Job Description

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on diesel tractors and tanker trailers
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and air brake systems
• Conduct DOT inspections and ensure compliance with safety standards

Requirements

Qualifications

• Experience working on diesel engines and tanker trailers strongly preferred
• Knowledge of DOT inspection requirements and FMCSA regulations
• Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues efficiently
• Welding and fabrication experience is a plus
• Must have own basic mechanic tools
• Valid driver's license required; CDL is a plus
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
• Ability to lift heavy components and work in a shop environment
