Job summary

McCarthy Tire Service in Charlottesville, VA is seeking a Truck Service Tire Technician to join our growing team. In this hands-on role, you'll perform essential tire services both in-shop and on the road, ensuring our customers stay safe and on the move.

You will work with commercial and heavy-duty tires, diagnose vehicle conditions, document services, and uphold safety and quality standards in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

  • Commercial and heavy-duty tire experience preferred.
  • General mechanical and automotive experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL Class A or B license required to test drive larger trucks.
  • State Inspection License may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to work on commercial vehicle engines.
  • Inspect vehicles for additional problems.
  • Use basic hand tools, tire tools, alignment machines, brake lathes, air wrenches, and other essential tools to perform the job.
  • Determine vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests and identifying worn or damaged parts.
  • Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing component and part upgrades, controlling corrosion, and completing winterization procedures.
  • Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems.
  • Comply with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle records by documenting services and repairs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe service area.

Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Commercial and heavy-duty tire experience preferred
  • General mechanical and automotive experience preferred
Requirements

  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team while performing other duties as assigned
  • Valid driver’s license
  • CDL Class A or B license required to test drive larger trucks

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Basic automotive skills and general mechanical knowledge
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
