Job summary

Nucor is hiring a Scale Operator to manage the yard hub, weighing loads, processing transactions, and verifying materials. You’ll ensure accuracy, safety, and efficient traffic flow at the scale gate.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of customer service experience - scrap metal or construction industry preferred.
• Organized and detail-oriented - you keep accurate records and stay on top of multiple transactions at once.
• Able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines without cutting corners.
• Strong communicator - comfortable working with all types of customers and all levels of management.
• Computer proficient - experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and ability to learn in-house systems.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.

Responsibilities

• Weigh and purchase inbound scrap, collect required customer information, complete purchasing and shipping documents, and reconcile transactions daily.
• Follow all company and OSHA safety procedures - attend safety meetings and keep the scale area safe.
• Follow all legal requirements for purchasing materials - accuracy and compliance are non-negotiable.
• Communicate pricing and material specifications clearly to customers - you're the face of the yard at the gate.
• Inspect incoming materials and flag non-acceptable items before they make it onto the yard.
• Verify metals are correctly identified and properly classified before purchase.
• Coordinate with other scale operators to verify transactions and prevent duplicate purchases.
• Control traffic patterns in the yard - direct customers to unloading locations efficiently and safely.
• Ensure every customer interaction is courteous, professional, and safe.
• Cross-train in other positions and support teammates as needed.

What You'll Do:

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

What We're Looking For:

Required:
