Job summary

Dollar General Corporation seeks a Truck Driver responsible for on-time delivery of freight between distribution centers, stores, and vendors. You will haul, unload, and secure multi-stop freight, including backhauls, while following DG policies and state/federal regulations.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with DOT and FMCSA regulations and safety standards.
• Ability to meet medical and safety requirements for DOT.
• Capacity to squat, lift and move freight as needed.
• Experience entering/exiting a commercial vehicle repeatedly.
• Ability to handle 1,200 lb rolltainers and 50 lb freight safely.

Responsibilities

• Transports store-delivery freight and returns over-the-road in a safe, efficient manner.
• Unloads and reloads freight and rolltainers at each stop with care.
• Rolls rolltainers off trailer and places them in store backrooms.
• Reloads return rolltainers and products for distribution back to a DC.
• Transfers freight between trailers at consolidation points to keep an empty trailer moving.
• Secures all freight prior to sealing trailer and maintains compliance paperwork.
• Provides professional customer service to store teams and vendors.
• Ensures operation complies with all applicable state and federal laws.

Job Description

The Truck Driver is responsible for on time delivery of freight between Dollar General Distribution Centers, stores, and vendors. Responsible for hauling and unloading multi-stop freight to Dollar General Stores and return freight (as required) and rolltainers to the Distribution Center. Responsible for safely operating the vehicle and transporting all freight which will include interstate and intrastate deliveries.

Job Responsibility

• Transports store-delivery freight as well as returns and backhauls over-the-road in a safe, efficient, and timely manner adhering to all DG specific policies and state and federal regulations. (40%)
• Unloads and reloads freight and rolltainers at each delivery in a safe and efficient manner. This will include (30%):
• Rolling rolltainers off the trailer onto a lift gate and placing them into the backroom of the store.
• Unloading individual boxes loaded on top of the rolltainers (referred to as toppers) onto U-boats and placing them in the backroom of the store.
• Reloading return rolltainers (including cardboard, tote and empties) and product onto the trailer and returning these items to the Distribution Center or consolidation point.
• At consolidation points, the driver will be accountable for backing up to an available Dollar General trailer and transferring rolltainers from one trailer to another creating an empty to go to a vendor.
• Safely securing all freight and rolltainers at each stop before sealing the trailer.
• Provides professional customer service to all parties including store teams, backhaul vendors, and distribution employees. (10%)
• Completes all necessary paperwork and maintains records required under state and federal laws and regulations. (10%)
• Ensures operation of the vehicle is following all state and federal laws and regulations. (10%)

Job Qualifications

• Knowledge of all applicable Department of Transportation (“DOT”) Regulations and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
• Ability to meet all standards (medical, safety, etc.) required by the DOT, including any drug/alcohol test.
• Ability to squat, crouch and reach as needed to handle freight.
• Ability to enter and exit the vehicle’s cab numerous times each day.
• Ability to push and pull rolltainers weighing approximately 1,200 pounds.
• Ability to access and manually release fifth wheel lever and tandem pins which requires horizontal pulling with a force of 100 pounds at a height of 44 inches and pulling with a force of 100 pounds at a height of 38 inches.
• Ability to occasionally lift, carry or move freight weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to install and remove tire chains, hook and unhook trailers, secure freight.

Working Conditions

• This role requires routine overnight travel for extended periods of time.
• Working in severe weather conditions – both head and cold.

Education/Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• One-year previous tractor/trailer driving experience.

License/Certification Required

• Valid Class A commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
