Job summary

GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA is seeking a Driver Assistant to support a truck driver in collecting donated goods and contract supplies in the New Orleans area. The role involves assisting with transportation, directing the driver, and ensuring proper safety and logistics at stores and warehouses.

The position requires ability to read maps, lift up to 50 lbs frequently and 100 lbs occasionally, and a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
• Transportation experience or training a plus.
• Must be able to lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs frequently and 100 lbs occasionally.
• Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly in English.
• Must be able to read a street map and give directions.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule including days, nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Assist the truck driver with daily transportation of goods, contract supplies and waste.
• Collect contributed goods from private homes and businesses.
• Collect salvage material and waste as directed.
• Monitor and service truck before each shift and report safety issues.
• Direct the truck driver while driving and parking.
• Read maps and provide directions to the driver.
• Move merchandise throughout stores, sales floors and warehouse.
• Provide courteous service to donors and issue receipts.
• Organize merchandise within Goodwill’s warehouse and stores.
• Maintain a clean and hazard-free truck.
• Attend scheduled work regularly.
