This is a hands-on transportation position for someone with proven experience hauling heavy equipment, structural steel, crane components, and oversized loads using flatbed and specialized trailers.

We are looking for a professional driver who takes ownership of equipment, understands proper load securement, maintains a strong commitment to safety, and can work effectively with dispatch, field crews, and project leadership.

About Superior Rigging & Erecting

At Superior Rigging & Erecting, we make the Tough Look Easy.

Since 1952, we have been a trusted leader in crane services, rigging, heavy hauling, structural steel erection, transportation, and specialty construction throughout the Southeast.

Our reputation has been built on technical expertise, operational excellence, and an unwavering commitment to safety. We perform demanding work where planning, communication, accountability, and disciplined execution are essential.

About This Opportunity

The Truck Driver will transport construction equipment, crane components, rigging materials, and other specialized loads to project locations throughout Georgia and the Southeast.

This position requires more than standard commercial driving experience. The successful candidate must understand the challenges associated with transporting heavy and oversized equipment, including trailer selection, load distribution, cargo securement, and operating safely in active construction environments.

The position requires a dependable professional who can work independently, maintain assigned equipment, communicate effectively, and support changing project schedules.

Position Summary

The Truck Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Class A commercial vehicles used to transport cranes, construction machinery, structural steel, and specialized equipment.

This position works closely with transportation dispatch, operations, and field personnel to coordinate equipment movements, maintain compliance with applicable transportation regulations, and ensure materials and equipment arrive safely and on schedule.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely operate Class A commercial vehicles, including tractor-trailers, flatbeds, lowboy trailers, and other specialized transportation equipment as qualified and assigned
  • Transport cranes, crane components, counterweights, structural steel, rigging equipment, and heavy construction machinery
  • Properly position, balance, and secure loads using chains, binders, straps, and approved cargo securement equipment
  • Perform required pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks, trailers, and related equipment
  • Verify load weights, dimensions, and securement requirements before transportation
  • Follow applicable oversized and overweight load requirements, including permits, routing restrictions, and escort procedures
  • Coordinate with dispatch, project managers, and field personnel regarding equipment deliveries, pickup schedules, and transportation requirements
  • Assist with loading, unloading, and positioning equipment when properly trained and authorized
  • Maintain accurate driver logs, inspection reports, delivery documentation, and required transportation records
  • Comply with Department of Transportation regulations, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requirements, and company safety policies
  • Identify and promptly report equipment defects, mechanical concerns, unsafe conditions, and transportation delays
  • Maintain assigned trucks, trailers, and associated equipment in a clean, safe, and professional condition
  • Safely navigate active construction sites, industrial facilities, and other challenging delivery environments
  • Communicate effectively with customers, supervisors, dispatch personnel, and field employees
  • Perform other transportation-related responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

  • Full-time position based in Atlanta, Georgia
  • Ability to travel throughout Georgia and the Southeast as required by project schedules
  • Availability to work early mornings, extended hours, occasional weekends, and overnight assignments when required
  • Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions
  • Ability to safely enter and exit commercial vehicles and access trailer decks and equipment
  • Ability to handle chains, binders, straps, and other cargo securement equipment
  • Ability to work safely around cranes, heavy machinery, construction vehicles, and active jobsite operations

  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment
