Job description

DRIVER CLASS A

This position requires the ability to drive a truck with a capacity of at least 26,001 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). May load and unload vehicle as required. Requires commercial driver’s license.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

• Greets customers with respect and courtesy.
• Keeps up to date with the product inventory and its functionality.
• Asks questions and provides relevant information to customers, and lists down orders they may purchase, thereby providing excellent customer service.
• Inspect vehicle to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment are in good working order, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
• Follow appropriate safety procedures for transporting goods, including inspecting loads to ensure cargo is secure.
• Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers.
• Read and interpret maps to determine vehicle routes.
• Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
• Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicle.
• Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required.
• Check all load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy.
• Collect delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes.
• Operate equipment, such as truck cab computer, cellular phones, driver cameras, GPS equipment to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisor or other drivers.
• Load or unload trucks or help others with loading or unloading, using loading-related equipment or other equipment as necessary.
• Maintain proficiency in all organizational safe working policies and practices.
• Performs other driver-related duties as assigned.
• Adheres to company policies and work requirements.

REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES

• Basic mathematical skills, as needed to make change and give refunds.
• Knowledgeable about company’s products and services, and customer-related policies.
• Must have a class “A” commercial driver’s license and required endorsements for the position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of on-the-job training.
• Two years of related experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must be in adequate physical condition to perform requirements such as mental, physical and manual dexterity, hand/grip strength, depth perception and any other physical attributes that enable the employee to perform the job safely according to all Company, Local, State, and Federal regulations and requirements.
• Ability to lift/carry up to 75 pounds regularly.
• Ability to push/pull up to 75 pounds regularly.
• Must wear prescribed personal protective equipment when handling material or operating equipment.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Successfully pass a DOT drug test as requested, a DOT physical capacity assessment, a background and motor vehicle check.
• Must maintain a valid commercial driver’s license and driving record that meets the organization safe driving standards.
