The City of Buffalo is seeking a Truck Driver in Street Sanitation to operate various trucks, including packer-type and dump trucks, and perform routine maintenance and safety duties. You will follow work orders, assist in loading and unloading, and help maintain safety zones while serving in varied weather conditions.
Responsibilities include snow removal with plow/spreader, driving under general direction, and reporting equipment problems during daily routes. CDL with air-brakes is required.
A Truck Driver in Street Sanitation operates one or more types of automotive equipment, including a packer-type truck and dump truck, other than heavy duty or specialized automotive equipment, in the performance of duties. Work consists of routine manual and simple mechanical operations of equipment. Incumbents are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the trucks and related equipment. S/he follows general directions, including work orders to determine work to be done and routes to be taken, from a superior who performs periodic inspections of work. Incumbents may be called upon to operate heavy duty equipment in case of emergency. Supervision may be exercised over Laborers in the loading and unloading of trucks.
(A) Continuous and permanent status in any city department as a Laborer in the competitive class for one year;
or
(B) Continuous and permanent status in any city department as a Laborer I, Laborer II, Housing Custodian, Street Repair Worker or Street Worker in the non-competitive class for two years.
