Job summary

Hinds County Government is seeking a truck driver to operate large tandem-axle trucks, hauling gravel, asphalt, and dirt between pits, plants, and work sites. The role requires adherence to state laws and proactive maintenance notifications to supervision.

The ideal candidate has a Class A CDL in good standing, a clean driving record in the last 5–10 years, and at least 2 years of tandem-axle experience. This is a non-exempt, at-will position with starting pay listed below.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CDL Class A license in good standing required.
• No serious tickets or accidents in last 5 years.
• No DWI/DUI in last 10 years.
• 2+ years’ commercial driving experience with tandem axle trucks.

Responsibilities

• Hauls gravel from gravel pit to work site.
• Picks up asphalt at plants and delivers to work sites.
• Hauls dirt from work sites to dumping location.
• Inspects equipment for proper operating conditions.
• Informs supervisor when routine maintenance or repair is required.
• Performs inspections on equipment to ensure proper operating conditions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

Summary This work involves operation of large trucks with tandem axles. The incumbent is responsible for safe operation of vehicles. Materials hauled include gravel, dirt, or asphalt. Operation of the vehicle must be within accordance to state traffic laws. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that preventive and repair maintenance is conducted on the equipment through notification of the employee's supervisor. The incumbent carries out these duties in a manner that does not require continuous and direct supervision by the immediate supervisor.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Hauls gravel from gravel pit to work site.
• Picks up asphalt at plants and delivers to work sites.
• Hauls dirt from work sites to dumping location.
• Inspects equipment for proper operating conditions.
• Informs supervisor when routine maintenance or repair is required.
• Performs inspections on equipment to insure proper operating conditions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
