Previous experience and knowledge of large ag equipment or commercial/turf equipment is welcomed but not required. General Purpose
The truck driver is responsible for safely transporting farm equipment as assigned. The person in this vital company role will effectively and professionally communicate with sales, service and customers to keep them informed of scheduling and other relevant changes.

Must have CDL, clean MVR, keep timely and accurate records/logs of pickup and delivery to customers as appropriate and maintain all required certifications and necessary paperwork for compliance with DOT, OSHA and company policies and regulations.

Essential Functions

  • Transports equipment to/from customers and/or between dealer facilities; may also pick‑up new equipment from a John Deere factory
  • Supports the sales department with equipment delivery as needed.
  • Maintains records of pickup and deliveries and obtains necessary signatures and receipts.
  • Maintains all required certifications in line with DOT, OSHA and company policy.
  • Accounts for all time and for all distance traveled in performing assigned duties.
  • May need to maintain assigned trucks and related equipment in good condition.
  • May instruct customers on basic equipment operating procedures as required.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to determine and execute proper procedure for transporting oversized loads to and from dealership locations.
  • Ability to instruct customers on basic equipment operating procedures as required.
  • Ability to keep loads organized and ensure they arrive in good condition.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with staff at all AVE‑PLP and customer locations to ensure loads are transferred in a timely manner.
  • Ability to always represent AVE‑PLP professionally and to meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Ability to develop working relationships with customers, both external and internal, to maximize sales, service, and parts opportunities and to ensure customer needs are addressed.
  • Knowledge of DOT driving regulations and area roads.
  • Ability to perform minor roadside repairs, such as installing light bulbs.
  • Ability to consistently promote, support, work, and act in a manner in support of AVE‑PLP’s Vision, Purpose, and Guiding Principles.

Education

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) equivalent is required.

Experience

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.
  • One year of experience as a Class A Motor Vehicle Operator is preferred.

Additional Requirements / Licenses / Certifications

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Commercial driver’s license is required.
  • Must have proof of ability to meet DOT physical requirements.
  • Passing a driving record (MVR), criminal history background checks, employment verification, and drug screen will be required prior to the start of employment.
  • Passing a drug screen is required at random request and in the event of a qualified traffic incident as required by AVE‑PLP or to comply with DOT requirements.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

Working Environment

  • Occasional outdoor work in extreme weather conditions (hot/cold); walking on uneven terrain; occasional exposure to insects.
  • Work may be performed in a standard laboratory, field, or an office environment during all types of temperatures, weather conditions and all times of day or night while being exposed to excessive noise from machines. Snowy, wet, and muddy conditions will exist. Work may be done in confined or cramped spaces.
  • Regular and long‑term exposure to work areas containing toxic/caustic/hazardous/volatile chemicals; extreme conditions such as hot/cold; sharp hazards; dust/fumes/gasses; electrical shock; moving mechanical parts; high pitched and/or constant loud noise; sometimes long‑term contact with bacteria and odorous, infectious/obnoxious material.
  • Work may involve assisting with sampling, calibration of equipment and process instruments calibration / maintenance often in difficult areas.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required including cold weather gear, eye protection, gloves, and provided uniform.
  • A clean and safety‑conscientious environment is required.
  • Work may involve long hours and overtime during holidays, weekends, and evenings.
  • May be required to rotate on‑call responsibilities.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, walk on unpaved terrain, talk, reach with arms and hands, have good manual dexterity, use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard, handle or feel, hear alarms/telephones/normal speaking voice.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • May involve climbing ladders, stairs, steps, and traversing catwalk grating, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, and kneeling on a frequent basis and working in confined space and manual dexterity required to complete work tasks through safe and proper operation of power and hand tools, and motor vehicles.
  • Ability to sit for sustained periods of time while operating a motor vehicle.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Strenuous physical work involving heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 50 pounds frequently and 75 pounds occasionally.
  • Moving, positioning, and carrying loads of up to 15 pounds upstairs and loading on four‑foot‑high surfaces frequently.
  • Ability to withstand extreme hot and cold temperatures.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee may be exposed to fumes such as vehicle exhaust.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly exposed to moderate noise such as the sounds of vehicle motors.
