Job summary

The Salvation Army in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Full Time Regular Store Driver to deliver merchandise to stores and customers, perform pickups, and keep vehicles in good operating condition. A high school diploma or GED is preferred, with at least one year of heavy-duty vehicle experience or equivalent training.

Valid driver’s license and DOT medical card are expected. Day shift position with minimal travel, focusing on safe, efficient delivery and excellent service to stores and customers

Responsibilities

  • Deliver merchandise to stores and to customers.

  • Load store deliveries and sold merchandise on trucks in an organized manner.

Job Category: Store

Responsible for being knowledgeable of the geographical area assigned and operating the vehicle within state/federal statutes and/or guidelines. Read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public. Deliver merchandise to stores and deliver sold merchandise to customers. Perform special pickups and deliveries, pick up vehicles at the garage, and other similar activities. Clean and secure the vehicle and equipment; conduct daily inspections of the vehicle's oil, water, tires, and other items of the vehicle to maintain good operating condition. Load store deliveries and sold merchandise on trucks in the most organized manner.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED preferred but not required and one year of experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • Valid State Driver's License
  • Valid DOT Medical Card
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License, desired but not required.
