Job summary

Assistant/Associate Professor of Tropical Fruit Crops at the Tropical Research and Education Center, UF IFAS, Homestead, FL, will lead a statewide extension program and develop educational programming for tropical fruit production. The position is 12-month tenure-accruing with substantial teaching and outreach duties.

The incumbent will collaborate with county extension personnel, deliver publications and workshops, and supervise graduate work while contributing to research and extension goals

Qualifications

  • A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in Horticultural Science or a closely related discipline is required.
  • Familiar with tree canopy management, irrigation and nutrient management, and pest/disease management for tree crops.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and ability to obtain extramural funding.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a state-wide extension program to increase knowledge and skills of extension agents and industry representatives.
  • Develop an educational program in production of tropical fruit crops grown commercially in the state.
  • Publish outputs, coordinate workshops, field days, and meetings; collaborate with county personnel and colleagues.
  • Advise the center’s field manager on maintenance of subtropical and tropical orchards and germplasm.
  • Teach a 1/2 term Summer-term course in tropical fruit production.
