Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company is seeking a dynamic Arborist Trainee for on-site work in Summerville, SC. You’ll learn climbing and tree-care skills while supporting a crew performing pruning, removal, and health/safety-focused tasks.

You will operate tools and equipment safely, with training provided, and opportunities to advance through a structured development program in a supportive, employee-owned company.

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors and interest in tree care.
• Forestry, horticulture, landscaping background or working at heights preferred.
• Ability to complete safety orientation on hire.
• First Aid/CPR and defensive driving courses on hire.
• Pesticide licenses/certifications preferred where required by law.

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees and work as part of a tree crew.
• Learn pruning and removal techniques for clients.
• Identify trees and apply industry pruning guidelines.
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood from canopies.
• Learn to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection.
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees safely.
• Maintain and operate chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts and related gear.
• Growth depends on your own effort and progression.

Position Overview

Trimand removetrees, remove unwanted,diseased or dying limbs on trees, or to affect the health and safety of trees or surrounding areasby performing the following duties.

Job Duties

What You’ll Do:

• Learn to climb trees! (Yes, we will pay you to do that.)
• Operate as a member of a tree crew while progressively learning new skills
• Learn to perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients. Including but not limited to:
• Tree identification and industry pruning guidelines
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood throughout the tree canopy
• Learn how to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees
• Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts, and more.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

• Love of the outdoors
• Preferred: Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire
• Preferred: Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law
