Job summary

Townsend Tree Service in Irvington, Kentucky is looking for a Trimmer D/4th Class to maintain trees for public safety. The candidate will be responsible for tree trimming, pruning, and removing while adhering to safety guidelines.

The ideal candidate has good attention to detail and must be able to operate various tools safely. Additional qualifications include knowledge of tree species and the operation of tree-related equipment.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older (21 if CDL required).
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Performs tree pruning, removal, brush chipping, and stump grinding.
• Operates and services equipment such as hydraulic tools and power tools.
• Cuts away dead and excess branches from trees.

Job description

Trimmer D/4th Class

Under supervision, a Trimmer D/4th Class maintains trees for public safety. The role involves tree trimming for assigned jobs through pruning, cutting, removing, and caring for trees. Trimmers may be exposed to hazards from working near traffic, falling limbs, and energized power lines. Attention to detail and strict adherence to safety guidelines are essential.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs tree pruning, removal, brush chipping, and stump grinding
• Uses climbing hooks, belts, ropes, and ladders safely
• Operates and services equipment and tools such as hydraulic tools, power tools, buckets, chippers, and sprayers
• Cuts away dead and excess branches from trees
• Sprays to treat diseased or unhealthy trees, including mixing chemicals and calibrating spray equipment
• Responsibilities may change with or without notice

Trimmer C/3rd Class

Under supervision, a Trimmer C/3rd Class maintains trees for public safety. The role is a mid‑level class that includes all duties of a D/4th Class in addition to identifying tree species and characteristics.

Duties and Responsibilities

• All duties listed above plus identify the species and characteristics of trees

Trimmer B/2nd Class

Under supervision, a Trimmer B/2nd Class maintains trees for public safety and provides crew supervision. The role builds on the responsibilities of the C/3rd Class.

Duties and Responsibilities

• All duties listed above plus assess tree failure risk
• Assist with training other trimmers

Trimmer A/1st Class

A Trimmer A/1st Class provides supervision and serves as the lead in the Foreperson or general Foreperson’s absence. The role is a top‑level class in the Trimmer series.

• All duties listed above plus provide training to other trimmers

What You’ll Bring to the Team

• Understanding of occupational hazards and safety precautions
• Semi‑skilled in mechanics
• Ability to complete a proficiency test covering climbing, knot tying, and chainsaw maintenance
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
• Possible DOT physical examination for CDL qualification
• Knowledge of essential job functions
• Attention to detail
• Organizational skills
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Problem‑solving ability
• Meet all physical requirements of the position
• Pass all drug and alcohol screens per company policy and DOT regulations if applicable
• 18 years of age or older (21 if CDL required)

Additional Qualifications

• Preferred for Trimmer D/4th Class & C/3rd Class: Experience with a tree care/maintenance program, including operation of stump grinders, chippers, chipper trucks, bucket trucks, and other tree‑related equipment
• Required for Trimmer B/2nd Class & A/1st Class: Experience with a tree care/maintenance program, including operation of stump grinders, chippers, chipper trucks, bucket trucks, and other tree‑related equipment
