Job summary

Maryland Office of the Public Defender (MOPD) seeks experienced litigators to serve as Assistant Public Defenders in District XI, serving Frederick and Washington Counties. The position is based in Washington County with potential rotation to other district courts as needed.

Responsibilities

• Passionate and zealous representation of clients at every stage of the criminal process.
• Ensure clients are consistently heard and respected.
• Conducts legal research and analysis including changes in laws and case precedents for trial.
• Communicate effectively with clients, team members, and service providers to ensure optimal outcomes.
• Counsels and advises clients on changes in law and court decisions.
• Negotiate with prosecutors to establish favorable resolutions for clients.
• Resourcefully manage a full caseload and coordinate with staff.
• Pursue ongoing professional development through trainings and CLEs.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Public Defender.
