Job summary

Tippecanoe County Government seeks a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney to prepare and present cases for prosecuting criminals. You will review investigations, file charges and warrants, and prepare for hearings and trials in coordination with law enforcement.

You will represent the State in court proceedings, negotiate plea agreements, and maintain case statistics while staying current with evolving laws and procedures. Evening, weekend hours and travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate Degree in Jurisprudence with license to practice law in Indiana.
  • Knowledge of Indiana case law, criminal code and rules of criminal and civil procedure.
  • Ability to conduct legal research and present cases in legal proceedings.
  • Strong oral and written communication with co-workers, law enforcement and state offices.
  • Ability to work odd hours, weekends and travel for court cases.

Responsibilities

  • Review investigations and reports; prepare/ file charges and warrants.
  • Prepare for hearings and trials: file documents, research case law, draft opening statements and exhibits.
  • Represent the State in court proceedings and negotiate plea agreements with defense attorneys.
  • Maintain statistics on reports reviewed, cases filed and declined.
  • Consult with law enforcement; provide training and respond to inquiries.
  • May supervise extradition applications for fugitive returns.
  • Maintain awareness of legislative changes through case law review and seminars.
