Job description

The Team

The Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) plays a critical role in supporting patient flow and the efficient delivery of care across the Royal Hobart Hospital. The Emergency Department is a key part of this function, providing essential administrative and clerical support that underpins safe, timely, and effective hospital operations.

Working as part of a broader multidisciplinary environment, the Emergency Department Clerical staff work closely with clinical, non-clinical, and operational teams to ensure accurate information management, coordinated patient journeys, and responsive service delivery. The team is focused on continuous improvement, data quality, and maintaining high standards that directly contribute to better outcomes for patients and the Tasmanian community.

The Role

As a Triage Clerk, you will be the first point of contact for patients presenting to the Emergency Department, providing a professional and efficient reception and administrative service. You will be responsible for patient registration, maintaining accurate patient records, coordinating admissions and discharges, managing enquiries, and supporting clinicians with a range of administrative functions. Working in a fast-paced environment, you will play an important role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the Emergency Department and supporting the delivery of quality patient care.

You will need
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with patients, visitors and healthcare professionals.
  • The ability to remain calm, organised and adaptable in a busy and demanding environment.
  • Strong administrative, data entry and computer skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Well-developed time management skills and the ability to prioritise competing tasks.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • An interest in healthcare administration and a willingness to learn hospital systems, policies and procedures.

Details of appointment

Permanent, part time, fully rotational shift worker position working across a 24/7 roster, working up to 56 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary

$76,849 to $82,996 pro rata per annum + our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2025
