Job summary

Ironwood Power Services is seeking equipment operators to support vegetation management and storm restoration for utility customers across North America. The role involves operating heavy machinery near energized lines, coordinating access with property owners, and maintaining safety throughout projects.

You will work outdoors in varying weather conditions, load and secure equipment, and follow company policies while delivering efficient right-of-way clearance.

Qualifications

• Commercial driver's license required.
• Knowledge of trees, growth, and arboricultural techniques near energized conductors.
• Familiarity with ANSI Z133.1 safety standards.
• Ability to read electrical circuit maps and diagrams.
• Must wear required PPE and maintain safety practices.
• Ability to work long hours, overtime, and after-hours call-outs.

• Sets up traffic control and protects workers and the public.
• Maintains punctual attendance at work and meetings.

Job description

Ironwood Power Services provides vegetation management and storm restoration services to utility companies and their communities across North America. We are looking for individuals with experience working on tree trimming or clearing crews. The equipment operator is responsible for operating various types of machinery to support right of way vegetation maintenance and clearance around utility lines and structures.

Responsibilities:

• Adheres to and coaches employees on company policies, procedures, on-the-job safety practices, and company safe work practices.
• Loads and unloads equipment from a trailer. Responsible for proper load securement in accordance with company policies and FMCSA guidelines.
• Works on the ground using hand saws, ground saws or other applicable tools to cut brush and limbs of larger trees. Utilizes a variety of hand tools (i.e. rake, shovel) to remove debris from work area.
• Operates heavy machinery such as track boom trimmers or mowers, tub grinders, etc.
• Obtains permission from property owners to trim or remove trees. Works with customer or property owner to gain access to the job site and explains any work needing to be completed.
• Conducts pre-inspection of work area to identify potential hazards
• Sets up warning signs, flags, relays hand-signals, directs traffic and other applicable traffic control devices to protect employees and members of the public from hazards in and around the work area
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings.

Qualifications:

• Commercial driver's license.
• Has a basic knowledge of trees, including identification, growth habits and correct arboricultural techniques for the trimming, pruning, repairing, maintaining and removing, as applies to working in close proximity to energized conductors.
• Knows and understand the American Nations Standards for Tree Care Operations (ANSI Z133.1-current version)
• Has a basic knowledge of electrical circuit and must be skilled in the reading and understanding of circuit maps.
• Must be able to wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
• Must be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times per day.
• Must be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work tasks such as rain, heat, sun, cold, snow.
• Ability to work long hours and overtime during emergencies (including holidays, weekends, storm work) and be subject to call-out work.
