Job summary

City of Amarillo's River Road Reclamation Plant is seeking a Treatment Plant Operator to join a shift-based role focusing on wastewater treatment operations and quality control, ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and City regulations.

Under indirect supervision, you will monitor plant processes, collect samples, perform tests, maintain records, and communicate status and hazards to the oncoming operator while supporting maintenance and safety procedures on site.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must obtain a TCEQ Class D Wastewater Certification within first year.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

• Make periodic rounds to ensure plant processes operate properly.
• Monitor and record flow through the plant.
• Collect samples for laboratory analysis.
• Perform standard tests for operations control.
• Maintain plant records (every 2 hours).
• Check pumps, motors, engines, and blowers for proper operation.
• Report status to supervisor and communicate hazards to oncoming operator.
• Assist with maintenance requests for equipment issues.

Responsible for the quality of effluent as set by Federal, State, and City regulations. Shift work and weekends.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIESMakes periodic rounds of the plant to assure that the plant process is operating properly.Monitors and records the flow through the plant.Collects samples for laboratory analysis.Performs standard tests for operations control.Maintains records for operations control of the plant (every 2 hours).Checks all pumps, motors, engines, and blowers and associated equipment.Fills out maintenance request forms on equipment not operating properly.Reports the status of the plant to the supervisor.Maintains flow distribution to; industrial, equalization, digestion, sludge, etc.Removes debris from clarifier as needed.Communicates to the oncoming operator the plant status and any hazards.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSRequires a High School Diploma or its equivalent and a minimum of one year of experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant. Must be able to attain a TCEQ Class D Wastewater Treatment Certification within the first year of employment. .
