Job summary

Johnson County Wastewater is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to lead staff, oversee treatment plant operations, and coordinate with supervisors to ensure safe and compliant wastewater management. The role supports the mission of protecting public health and the environment while serving the community.

The position emphasizes leadership, emergency response readiness, and collaboration with municipal officials. A strong background in mechanical maintenance and wastewater operations is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ten years of mechanical, maintenance, or relevant industrial work.
• Two years of experience leading, directing or supervising others.
• One year in wastewater treatment or collection systems.
• Valid driver’s license with clean record.
• Experience may be substituted for experience.
• Preferred: Associate’s degree in Environmental Sciences or related field.

Responsibilities

• Leads a High Performing Organization by promoting leadership and staff development.
• Analyzes process control and data to guide treatment adjustments and compliance.
• Directs staff in maintenance, operations, and safety, coordinating with supervisors.
• Maintains relationships with stakeholders and responds to emergencies with rapid decisions.
• Prepares reports, schedules, and ensures regulatory compliance and safety standards.
