Job summary

Engineered Structures, Inc. (ESI) is seeking a Construction Superintendent to oversee on-site activities, coordinate resources, and ensure adherence to plans and safety standards. The role involves supervising crews and subcontractors, maintaining schedules, and reporting progress to stakeholders.

The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of building codes, planning, and safety practices, with the ability to lead teams, manage documentation, and facilitate meetings with owners and architects.

Qualifications

  • Education and experience as listed: High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor's in construction management preferred but not required.
  • 3–5 years of Superintendent experience preferred but not required.
  • Comprehensive understanding of plans, specs, and building codes.
  • Computer skills: Email, Daily Reports, Timecards, MS Office, Scheduling software.
  • Experience operating Fork/Boom/Scissor lifts.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to create detailed short interval project schedules and plans to ensure timely completion of milestones.
  • Organize and coordinate resources, materials, and subcontractors to meet project milestones.
  • Attend Owner, Architect, and Contractor meetings and keep Owner representatives up to date on changes (RFI, schedule conflicts, etc.).
  • Oversee and direct construction activities on site, ensuring adherence to project plans and specs.
  • Manage and supervise a team of construction workers, subcontractors, and other personnel.
  • Provide guidance and support to workforce for safe, efficient work practices.
  • Communicate expectations, enforce policies, and complete records.
  • Develop/modify JHAs and provide JHA training; coordinate with Safety Team for training.
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings and inspections; monitor quality of materials and workmanship.
  • Monitor project budgets and expenses; identify potential cost-saving measures.
  • Generate regular progress reports and maintain project docs (daily reports, photos, logs).
  • Address issues promptly and identify preventive measures for roadblocks.
  • Ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and permits.

Job description

Responsibilities

Project Planning and Scheduling:

  • Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to create detailed short interval project schedules and plans to ensure timely completion of milestones.
  • Organize and coordinate resources, materials, and subcontractors to meet project milestones.
  • Regularly participate in the Owner, Architect, and Contractor meetings, and ensure Owner/Owner representatives are up to date on any changes regarding schedule, potential conflicts, RFI’s, etc.

On-Site Supervision:

  • Oversee and direct construction activities on the site, ensuring adherence to project plans and specifications.
  • Manage and supervise a team of construction workers, subcontractors, and other personnel.
  • Provide guidance and support to the workforce to ensure efficient and safe work practices.

Safety and Quality Control:

  • Communicates expectations, enforces policies, and completes/submits records.
  • Develops/modifies JHA’s for the project and provides JHA training at appropriate stages of the project.
  • Identifies needs for training and communicates with the Safety Team to ensure training is completed prior to reaching the stage of work that training will be required for.
  • Complete work area inspections and conduct weekly safety meetings with subcontractors and foremen.
  • Monitor and maintain quality standards for all construction activities, materials, and workmanship.

Budget and Cost Management:

  • Monitor project budgets and expenses, ensuring that the project stays within allocated financial limits.
  • Identify potential cost-saving measures without compromising safety, quality, and project scope.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Generate regular progress reports and communicate updates to project stakeholders, including clients and management.
  • Keep detailed records of all construction activities, changes, and project-related documentation (ex. daily reports, photos, and logs).

Problem Solving:

  • Address and resolve any issues or challenges that arise during construction promptly.
  • Proactively identify potential roadblocks and work on preventive measures.

Compliance and Permits:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant building codes, regulations, and permits required for the project.
Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED. A bachelor’s degree in construction management, or a related field, is preferred but not required.
  • 3-5 years’ Construction Superintendent experience is preferred but not required.

Technical Skills:

  • Comprehensive understanding of plans, specifications, and building codes.
  • Computer Skills – Email, Daily Reports, Timecards, Microsoft Office, Scheduling Software.
  • Experience operating Fork/Boom/Scissor Lift.
  • Experience with any of the following software is preferred, but not required:

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Effective and professional communication and interaction with supervisors, employees, and others, whether individually or in a team environment, are vital aspects of the role.
  • Adherence to safety protocols and the ability to follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment guidelines, and company policies, are necessary for performing work safely and effectively

Certifications:

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
  • First Aid, CPR, and Respirator Training
Working Conditions

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of what Superintendent 1 will encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Fast-paced working environment.
  • Working environment may be busy and noisy.
  • This position requires outdoor work, with exposure to various weather conditions.
  • This role may occasionally require working in high, precarious places; near fumes or airborne particles; and handling toxic or caustic chemicals. There is also a risk of electrical shock and vibration in certain situations.
  • The work environment’s noise level is usually loud.
Physical Demands
  • This position may require frequent travel by motor vehicle.
  • The role may involve extended hours on construction sites, necessitating physical stamina to move around the premises.
  • The ability to lift and/or move materials and tools is essential, with a maximum weight limit of 50lbs. These tasks may vary and are not required to be performed daily.
Travel Requirements
  • May be required to work on project sites both within and outside of the Boise metropolitan area, or in other states. There are 3 different work schedule rotation options depending upon business needs.
