Position Overview
The Superintendent/Foreman (Foundations) manages daily site activities for Foundations projects, ensuring construction aligns with safety, design, budget, and schedule requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee lead personnel and staff on each project site.
- Communicate daily with General Superintendents regarding workforce and equipment needs.
- Coordinate and schedule subcontractors; monitor subcontractor work for compliance with agreements.
- Maintain a safe working environment by identifying hazards and enforcing corrective actions.
- Conduct Job Hazard Analysis meetings, daily stretching, and weekly Tool Box topics.
- Maintain daily records: logs, equipment schedules, material schedules, timecards.
- Manage field personnel fairly and in accordance with Veit policies and local/federal laws.
- Participate in pre‑construction, project start‑up, and regular job site meetings.
- Report safety issues, equipment damage, and workplace injuries as per Veit policies.
- Inspects work for quality compliance, review drawings and manufacturer literature.
- Respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or community members.
- Engage in training for construction methods and safety; support staff training opportunities.
Qualifications
- Five years of experience overseeing crews responsible for installing deep foundation systems.
- Experience installing and/or overseeing piledriving, micropiles, caisson, and helical piles.
- Five or more years of equipment experience (drills, concrete pumps, batch plants).
- Ability to oversee multiple jobs simultaneously with strong safety, quality, and schedule focus.
- OSHA 30‑hour, HAZWOPER, Excavating Safety Training, Blueprint Training, CPR, First Aid certifications.
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, iPad, iPhone.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with employees, clients, and business associates.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to present before groups and individuals.
- Proficient in basic mathematical concepts (fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions).
Supervisory Responsibility
Directly manages lead personnel and staff on each project site.
Physical Demands
Must perform manual work requiring extensive physical exertion, lift or move up to 50 pounds, and work in variable weather and terrain conditions.
Work Schedule & Travel
- 8 to 10‑hour workdays, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends as needed.
- Approximately 50% travel within the upper Midwest region.
Eligibility
- Must pass a pre‑employment drug test and maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
- Must be over 18 and willing to join the union.
