Traveling Superintendent – Luxury Retail Construction

Location: Nationwide Travel

About the Company

A growing commercial general contractor specializing in high-end and luxury retail construction is seeking an experienced Traveling Superintendent to join their team. The company works with nationally recognized retail and fashion brands, delivering new store construction, high-end tenant improvements, renovations, and complex interior build-outs across the United States.

This is an opportunity for a hands-on Superintendent who takes pride in delivering high-quality retail environments and is comfortable working in fast-paced, schedule-driven project environments.

Position Overview

The Traveling Superintendent will be responsible for the day-to-day field management of luxury retail construction projects from mobilization through final completion and turnover. This individual will serve as the primary field leader, coordinating subcontractors, vendors, owners, architects, and project management teams while maintaining project schedules, quality standards, and safety requirements.

The ideal candidate has experience with luxury or high-end retail construction, understands the importance of premium finishes and attention to detail, and is comfortable traveling extensively for projects nationwide.

Responsibilities
  • Manage daily field operations for luxury retail construction projects from mobilization through project closeout.
  • Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and field personnel.
  • Maintain project schedules and ensure critical milestones are achieved.
  • Coordinate site logistics, deliveries, manpower, materials, and equipment.
  • Review plans, specifications, shop drawings, and project documents to identify conflicts and coordinate field solutions.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, owners, architects, designers, engineers, and subcontractors throughout construction.
  • Monitor workmanship and enforce quality-control standards, particularly for high-end finishes and detailed interior construction.
  • Coordinate multiple trades, including architectural finishes, millwork, framing, drywall, flooring, painting, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and specialty systems.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and maintain compliance with OSHA and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Manage inspections, punch lists, corrective work, and final turnover.
  • Maintain daily reports, project documentation, RFIs, and other field records.
  • Coordinate final inspections and assist with Certificate of Occupancy and project closeout requirements.
  • Identify potential schedule or construction issues early and work proactively with the project team to resolve them.
  • Represent the company professionally with clients, architects, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Travel extensively throughout the United States based on project requirements.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience as a Construction Superintendent.
  • Proven experience managing retail construction projects, preferably luxury or high-end retail.
  • Experience with new store construction, tenant improvements, and/or major retail renovations.
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction methods, sequencing, and building systems.
  • Experience coordinating multiple subcontractor trades and managing demanding project schedules.
  • Strong understanding of architectural finishes, millwork, and detail-oriented interior construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documents.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound field decisions.
  • Procore or similar construction management software experience preferred.
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively nationwide.
