Job description

Install critical cable systems across the US and abroad

Do you want to help energize communities and connect a greener world? As a Traveling Jointer/Splicer at NKT, you will install and repair medium and high-voltage land and submarine cables across the US and internationally. This opportunity combines practical cable jointing, electrical testing, customer service and extensive travel while contributing to projects within utilities, renewable energy, heavy industry and underground distribution/transmission.

Install and repair medium and high-voltage cable systems

You will splice, terminate and repair cable systems at customer sites while meeting NKT quality requirements and applicable OSHA standards. Your work will include cable preparation, fault location, electrical testing and the installation of joints, terminations, splices and cable accessories. You will also support job planning, hazard identification, quality documentation and daily reporting.

The role operates across the US and abroad, with 75–100% travel and trips lasting several days, weeks or months. Work takes place at customer sites that include indoor, outdoor and occasionally remote locations, along with energized facilities with defined safety controls.

Safety-focused cable jointer ready for extensive travel

You approach practical work carefully and consistently, with safety and quality as clear priorities. You maintain a structured approach, adjust readily to new worksites, and handle varying schedules and climates with ease. You communicate clearly with colleagues and customers, contribute to effective site collaboration and remain attentive when completing detailed work in demanding environments.

  • Experience as a Cable Splicer/Jointer or Lineman with medium or high-voltage cable installations and repairs
  • Jointing experience (inline splices, terminations, and associated accessories)
  • Knowledge of XLPE, EPR or PILC cable systems and accessories
  • Ability to read electrical drawings and circuit maps
  • A valid driver’s license and availability for extensive travel
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand, stoop, kneel, and work in confined spaces or manholes
  • Comfort working at heights, around energized equipment (in accordance with safety boundaries), and in PPE
  • Ability to use basic Microsoft programs (Outlook/Teams) on a laptop or mobile device for daily field reporting, online checklists, and team communication

You also have:

  • Experience working in substations, renewables (wind/solar/BESS), heavy industrial, or underground distribution/transmission networks
  • CDL, TWIC, and ability to obtain site specific clearances
  • Practical experience with electrical testing (VLF/hipot, IR, TDR/PD) and interpreting results
