Job summary

RHI Magnesita is seeking a Traveling Service Technician to support customers across North America with hands-on refractory installation, maintenance, and field service.

This remote role requires up to 80% travel, including potential future international assignments, and offers competitive pay, benefits, and opportunities to work on high-temperature equipment in diverse plants.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 5+ years in industrial field service or refractory/steel.
• Experience with refractory installation, bricklaying, welding, forming, pouring, shotcrete, or gunning in steel/industrial settings.
• Ability to read blueprints and specifications.
• Experience operating forklifts and aerial lifts.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Valid driver's license.
• Valid international passport or ability to obtain one.
• MSHA Part 46/48 or OSHA 10/30 certifications or ability to obtain.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and reporting systems (Concur, ADP, Dayforce) preferred.
• Strong communication and customer-focused mindset.
• Willingness to travel extensively and perform physically demanding work.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, work at heights, confined spaces.
• Professional demeanor and customer relationship skills.

Responsibilities

• Travel to US customer sites to support refractory installation, maintenance, and repair; up to 80% travel.
• Install and repair refractory systems in kilns, furnaces, vessels, and industrial equipment.
• Perform welding, cutting, grinding, anchor installation, forming, and pouring as needed.
• Support gunning and shotcrete refractory applications and material trials.
• Interpret drawings, specifications, and layouts for accurate installation.
• Conduct kiln audits, ovality measurements, and 3D scans of kilns and furnaces.
• Utilize precision measuring equipment, scanners, thermal imaging cameras, and related diagnostics.
• Operate forklifts, aerial lifts, scissor lifts, and other equipment safely.
• Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment and maintain documentation.

What You’ll Do

• Travel to customer sites throughout the United States to support refractory installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair activities. Up to 80% travel expected.
• Install and repair refractory systems in kilns, furnaces, vessels, and other industrial equipment.
• Perform welding, cutting, grinding, anchor installation, forming, and pouring activities as required.
• Support gunning and shotcrete refractory applications and material trials at customer locations.
• Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and layouts to ensure accurate installation and maintenance activities.
• Conduct kiln audits, ovality measurements, and 3D scans of kilns, furnaces, and vessels.
• Utilize precision measuring equipment, scanners, thermal imaging cameras, and related diagnostic tools.
• Operate forklifts, manlifts, scissor lifts, and other construction and maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
• Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment including rotary guns, jackhammers, rivet busters, and related machinery.
• Maintain accurate documentation, expense reports, and project records while representing RHI Magnesita professionally at customer sites.

What You Bring

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 5+ years of industrial field service, refractory, steel or non-ferrous metals experience required.
• Experience with refractory installation, bricklaying, welding, forming, pouring, shotcrete, or gunning applications in steel and industrial applications is highly desirable.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
• Experience operating forklifts, aerial lifts, and other industrial equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Valid international passport or ability to obtain a passport required.
• MSHA part 46b or 48 certifications or ability to obtain required
• OSHA 10 or 30 or ability to obtain required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and electronic reporting systems (e.g. Concur, ADP, Dayforce) is preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with a customer-focused mindset.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively, work varying shifts, and perform physically demanding work in industrial environments.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, work at heights, and perform tasks in confined spaces.
• Ability to present yourself in a professional manner and build strong customer relationships.
