Job summary

Gilder Search Group is seeking a Traveling Nanny to provide exceptional care for two children (ages 5 and 7) in the family’s Upper East Side townhouse. The role requires evenings, early mornings, and weekend hours with travel during school breaks and summers.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant professional Nanny experience, preferably within private households.
• Strong experience caring for school-aged children
• Prior experience traveling with a private family strongly preferred
• Ability and willingness to travel during school breaks, including Christmas, February break, Easter/spring break, and approximately one month internationally during the summer required
• Passport and ability to travel internationally REQUIRED
• Legally able to work within the United States

Responsibilities

• Provide attentive, loving, and age-appropriate care
• Manage after-school care and maintain consistent weekday and evening routines
• Assist with homework and school-related responsibilities
• Support evening routines, including showers, getting ready for bed, and other nighttime needs
• Actively engage the children through board games, puzzles, reading, creative play, activities, and outings
• Plan and facilitate activities, outings, and playdates, particularly on Saturdays and during school breaks
• Maintain organization of the children’s belongings, school materials, activity supplies, and travel necessities
• Pack and unpack for the children and ensure they are prepared for family travel
• Accompany the family during domestic and international travel and maintain the children’s routines and overall well-being while away
• Communicate proactively with the parents regarding the children’s whereabouts, schedules, activities, and needs
• Operate independently, anticipate the children’s needs, and exercise sound judgment
• Work collaboratively with the family and other household professionals
• Maintain the utmost discretion and confidentiality

Job description

Private family seeks a warm, engaging, and highly dependable Traveling Nanny to provide exceptional care for their two children, ages 5 and 7. Based at the family’s Upper East Side residence, this is a long-term opportunity for an experienced Nanny who genuinely enjoys engaging with children and can provide consistent after-school and evening care throughout the school year while also accompanying the family during school breaks and extended travel.

The regular schedule is Monday through Friday from 4pm to 9pm and Saturday from 9am to 6pm, with 40 hours per week guaranteed. Flexibility for extended hours is essential, including occasional Friday evening events or dinners. The Nanny will primarily support the children following school, assisting with homework, showers, nighttime routines, and providing attentive, active, and engaging care. Saturdays will allow for more extended childcare, activities, outings, playdates, and general support.

The position requires significant flexibility for family travel during school breaks. The family travels domestically over Christmas, February break, and Easter/spring break and spends approximately one month abroad during the summer. Travel is an important component of the position and offers the opportunity for increased compensation through an enhanced travel compensation package.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of relevant professional Nanny experience, preferably within private households
• Strong experience caring for school-aged children
• Prior experience traveling with a private family strongly preferred
• Ability and willingness to travel during school breaks, including Christmas, February break, Easter/spring break, and approximately one month internationally during the summer required
• Valid passport and ability to travel internationally REQUIRED
• Extremely reliable, trustworthy, hardworking, and committed to a long-term Nanny career
• Warm, loving, energetic, playful, and genuinely enthusiastic about engaging with children
• Naturally flexible and comfortable with extended hours and changing schedules, particularly during family travel
• Organized, proactive, capable of operating independently, and able to anticipate the children’s needs
• Comfortable assisting with homework and managing structured after-school and nighttime routines
• Strong command of the English language with excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent references from current and former employers
• High level of discretion, emotional intelligence, sound judgment, and commitment to confidentiality and safety
• Legally able to work within the United States

Compensation:

$45/hour + benefits

Travel Package:

Travel expenses and private accommodations provided, overtime paid during travel, $200 overnight travel fee paid
