Job summary

E2 Optics is seeking a Traveling Lead Technician to install and test structured cabling and fiber systems at client sites across the US. You will read floorplans, interpret specs, and lead a small team to ensure project success.

Expect frequent travel (50%+), hands-on installation, and ongoing training to advance your leadership role. A strong emphasis on safety and quality is central to the role.

Qualifications

  • Requires high school diploma or GED.
  • OSHA 30 within two weeks.
  • BICSI Installer 2 Copper or Fiber preferred.
  • 2+ years in structured cabling or related field.
  • Ability to distinguish color codes.
  • Knowledge of structured cabling systems, pathways, spaces, and testing.

  • Lead teams of 3–5 technicians to complete project tasks.
  • Install and test structured cabling and related systems.
  • Read floorplans, diagrams, and cut sheets; interpret specifications.
  • Train technicians and install teams on tasks and responsibilities.

What You'll Do
  • Safety is E2 Optics' number one Core Value. All employees are expected to follow safe work practices, as well as adhere to company and client worksite safety policies and procedures.
  • Installation of structured cabling systems including all aspects of the installation process.
  • Reads and interprets all floorplans, drawings, specifications, and cut sheets.
  • Properly sets up a variety of copper and fiber testers.
  • Performs system testing and troubleshooting as required.
  • Terminates, labels, tests and troubleshoots optical fiber and copper installations.
  • Proactively lead teams of 3-5 Technicians and Installers to complete project tasks.
  • Adequately train Technicians and Installers to complete all the tasks and responsibilities of their positions.
  • Assist in developing Technicians to complete all the tasks and responsibilities of a Lead Technician.
  • Proactively oversee and lead jobsite organization and basic housekeeping maintenance.
  • Maintain professional appearance and demeanor in both internal and customer relations.
  • Excel in technical tasks such as testing and troubleshooting.
  • Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, etc.).
  • Exhibit and maintain professional appearance and behavior.
  • Assisting the project team with installation activities as needed.
  • Travel: This position is expected to require frequent (50%+) overnight and extended out-of-town travel. The individual in this role should be able and willing to travel as required by E2 Optics.
What We Are Looking For
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • OSHA 30 within first 2 weeks in role.
  • BICSI Installer 2 Copper preferred.
  • BICSI Installer 2 Fiber preferred.
  • Minimum 2+ years' work experience in Structured Cabling or related industry/construction experience.
  • Able to distinguish color codes.
  • Ability to understand and effectively explain every aspect of the structured cabling system including pathways, spaces, horizontal cabling, backbone copper, backbone fiber optic, cross- and inter-connections, and testing. This includes understanding applicable codes, standards, and industry-best practices and the ability to differentiate between them and make recommendations.
  • Ability to choose the correct tool and methodology for a given task for themselves and can help other team members do the same.
  • High attention to detail with demonstrated ability to source and follow standards.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to workdays, nights and weekends as project requires.
  • Motivate teams to work effectively in versatile work environments.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The standard work environment for this position is an indoors business office and construction environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This role requires sitting, use of hands and arms, verbal communication, and occasional physical movement such as stooping or kneeling. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must regularly carry and climb ladders to 20 feet. Must be able to operate equipment such as scissor lifts, telehandlers, boom lifts, and UTVs (buggies) if required to do so. The employee may also be required to work in tight and confined spaces. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
