Job summary

The Middlesex Corporation, a nationally recognized leader in heavy civil construction, seeks an Equipment Operator in the Rail Department in Orlando, FL. You will safely operate excavators, loaders, dozers, and rail-specific machinery to support grading, excavation, and track installation.

Requirements include 3–5 years of operator experience in heavy/civil construction and OSHA 10 certification; rail experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inform Superintendent daily of fuel status to schedule fuel deliveries.
• Operate equipment including excavators, loaders, dozers, and rail-specific machinery.
• Assist in aligning and setting rail components with the crew.

Position Summary

The Equipment Operator in the Rail Department is responsible for safely operating heavy machinery and specialized equipment to support rail construction, maintenance, and repair projects. This role ensures the efficient and precise execution of tasks such as grading, excavating, material handling, and track installation.

Responsibilities

• Comply with (and actively promote) all Safety policies and procedures including reporting all accidents, incidents and near misses to ensure adherence to our Number One Core Value – Safety, first in everything we do.
• Complete equipment condition reports, as well as a daily checklist of work to be done on your equipment and provide to the Project Superintendent daily.
• Cleaning the machines regularly. This includes sweeping the cabs and removing trash daily, cleaning the interior weekly, and lubricating doors and windows bi-weekly.
• Understand and comply with all Company safety policies and procedures. Know where all utilities within the work zone are located. Be responsible for your own safety as well as those working in the area.
• Inform your Superintendent or Foreman daily of your equipment fuel status so the fuel truck can be scheduled if needed for the next morning.
• Make a note on your equipment report and let your Superintendent know if you need any supplies, i.e.: grease, oil, rags, cleaning supplies, or if the machine needs to be steam cleaned.
• Operate various types of equipment, including excavators, loaders, dozers, and rail-specific machinery (e.g., ballast regulators, track tampers).
• Perform tasks such as rail bed grading, excavation, material transportation, and track installation.
• Assist in aligning and setting rail components in coordination with the crew.

Qualifications

• Must have 3-5 years Operator Experience in Heavy/Civil Construction.
• Rail Experience preferred.
• OSHA 10.
