Job summary

Terracon is seeking a Traveling Construction Materials Technician to join our team. This role involves 100% travel across the Eastern Midwest division, including MI, OH, IN, KY, and WV, working on transportation, commercial, wind farms, and other high-profile projects.

You will perform testing, observation, and inspection, document findings, and communicate results to the Project Manager while maintaining equipment and safety standards on all assignments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 1–2 years of relevant experience or equivalent training.
• Experience with laptop use and Microsoft Word/Excel.

Responsibilities

• Performs testing, observation, and inspection as directed per procedures.
• Provides clear documentation of findings and results.
• Performs basic analysis of data before communication to the Project Manager.
• Communicates information to Project Manager and other personnel as directed by the PM.
• Assists higher level technicians on complex tasks.
• Maintains assigned equipment and related calibration.
• Drives a vehicle to project locations.
• Follows safety rules and reports safety issues to management.
• Maintains quality standards on all projects.

This position involves 100% travel throughout our "Eastern Midwest" division including Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia. In this position, you will travel 100% of the time to work on multiple high-profile projects such as transportation, commercial buildings, wind farms, and more in many geographical areas. Essential Roles And Responsibilities

• Performs testing, observation, and inspection as directed in accordance with training and the specified procedures.
• Provides clear documentation of findings and results.
• Performs basic analysis of data to verify accuracy before communication and submittal to the Project Manager.
• Communicates information to Project Manager and other personnel as directed by the PM.
• Assists higher level technicians on complex tasks.
• Maintains assigned equipment and related calibration.
• Drive a vehicle such as a Ford F-150 or equivalent.
• Follows safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects. Performs pre-task planning prior to executing work. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
• Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 1-2 years of relevant experience or the equivalent in training and related experience.
• Experience with laptop computer use and Microsoft Word and Excel
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

Required Certifications

• ACI certification in one or more of the following areas:
• Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I
• Concrete Strength Testing Technician
• Certified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
• Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.

Preferred Certifications

Certifications in one or more of the following areas:

• NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing in one or more of the following categories: Asphalt, Concrete, Soils.
• NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical in one or more of the following categories: Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist
• ICC certification in one or more of the following categories: Reinforced Concrete, Spray-applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post-Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel - Bolting, Structural Steel - Welding.
• American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI)
• American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level II certification in more than one of the following areas: Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT).
• Other national, regional, state, and local Materials related certifications requiring experience and written examination will also be considered if deemed appropriate by the Terracon Department Manager.
