Job summary

Robinson Construction Company is seeking a skilled carpenter to construct, form, place, and finish concrete structures per project specs. You will work from blueprints, coordinate layouts with the foreman, and ensure quality and safety on site.

The role requires 3+ years of carpentry experience and an apprenticeship is preferred; HS diploma or GED is recommended. This on-site position involves travel for job sites and potential overtime.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction as well as basic mathematics and its applications.
  • Skill in the standard use of tools and equipment of the profession and ability to visualize a layout by looking at plans and prints.
  • Ability to work successfully as a team and independently with moderate supervision.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions, communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to fully grasp requirements.
  • Coordinate with Foreman to configure construction layout.
  • Assemble and secure forms, wood structures, sheet metal, and other materials.
  • Install form work, place steel reinforcement, install concrete, and finish as needed for concrete construction.
  • Takes measurements and calculates the size and amount of material needed.
  • Cut, shape and smooth lumber and other material according to needed measurements.
  • Place, level, and finish concrete using a variety of carpentry and finishing tools.
  • Smooth and finish surfaces using hand tools, floats, and power trowels.
  • Ensure that all concrete work meets quality standards, project specifications, and safety requirements.
  • Lay out flooring, roofing or drywalls ensuring they are leveled and compatible.
  • Cut or bore holes in structures, such as bulkheads, decks, walls, or mains, using hand or power tools.
  • Assist other craft workers as needed or assigned.
  • Inspect work sites for obstructions or holes that could cause structural weakness.
  • Check work and repair or correct any faults.
  • Take personal responsibility for fostering a safe workplace by following safety policies and procedures.

Job description

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Successful completion of a carpentry apprenticeship program preferred.
  • Three or more years proven construction carpentry experience required.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction as well as basic mathematics and its applications.
  • Skill in the standard use of tools and equipment of the profession and ability to visualize a layout by looking at plans and prints.
  • Ability to work successfully as a team and independently with moderate supervision.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions, communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Coordinate eye‑hand movements with control and precision.
  • Use hands and fingers fully; reach for, manipulate and feel objects; stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
  • Climb and maintain body balance on ladders, scaffolding or high structures; and see and hear well (either naturally or with correction).
  • Lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and stoop, lay, bend or squat for long periods of time.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • May be exposed to fumes, dust or other airborne particles and loud noises.
  • Position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and vibrating machinery.
  • May be exposed to extreme outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION
  • Some travel, overtime, shift work, weekends and holidays may be required.
