Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is hiring a Community Integration Specialist to support students with disabilities in developing travel skills and independent community navigation. The role involves direct instruction, travel planning, and collaboration with school staff and families.

The position emphasizes assessment, planning, and documentation of progress, ensuring access to community resources and services as part of transition planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; high school diploma or GED required.
• Experience with individuals with disabilities in educational settings is required.
• Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish and/or ASL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide travel training and direct instruction to students with disabilities to develop public transportation and independence skills.
• Conduct pre- and post-travel training assessments and determine candidacy for travel training.
• Develop instructional plans and behavioral tasks to assess readiness for independent travel.
• Determine safe routes and contingencies for student travel and collaborate on IEP goals.
• Regularly communicate with school staff, parents, and Transition team to support travel training.
