Summary of Role

The SLP evaluates, diagnoses, and treats communication and swallowing disorders in individuals of all ages. Develops individualized treatment plans, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and caregivers, and documents progress in the EMR.

Essential Work Functions
  • Utilize standardized assessments and clinical observation to evaluate speech, language, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders.
  • Design personalized therapy programs based on evaluation findings, patient goals, and best practices.
  • Continuously assess patient progress, adjust treatment plans, and maintain accurate documentation in the EMR.
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers about effective communication strategies, home exercises, and safe swallowing practices.
  • Coordinate care with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Maintain a safe treatment environment following infection control protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Engage in quality assurance and professional development activities to stay current with best practices.
  • Perform other duties within scope of practice as assigned.
Required Essential Skills

  • Proficient in English reading, writing, and communication.
  • Proficient with written and verbal instructions and basic PC skills.
  • Physical abilities: remain stationary, move about, move equipment (50–100 lbs), push, pull, bend.
  • Interpersonal skills: work effectively with professional and ancillary staff, maintain a positive attitude and professionalism.
  • Technical and motor skills: fine manipulation, push/pull, use department equipment.
  • Mental requirements: handle frequent public interactions, meet deadlines under pressure, work independently, handle irregular activity schedules, maintain concentration and attention to detail.
