Job summary

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Float Pool RN for a 13-week night shift contract in West Virginia. The position requires at least 2 years of RN experience and WV or compact RN licensure, plus BLS and NIHSS certifications. The unit features a 30-bed Med/Surg overflow with 12-hour nights and 36 hours per week, with floating based on census and charge RN support.

Travel pay is offered, with housing reimbursement and licensure support. EPIC EMR is used and weekends are scheduled as needed.

Qualifications

• Active WV or compact RN license required.
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required.
• BSN not required.
• Valid driver's license copy required for consideration.

Responsibilities

• Acute care Med/Surg unit (6N Overflow) with 30 beds.
• Patient-to-nurse ratios of 1:6, up to 1:7.
• 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week.
• Weekends scheduled as needed, typically half of all weekends.
• Floating required based on census, with external travelers floated first.
• One charge RN assigned to the floor along with PCTs for support.
• Telemetry monitored remotely by monitor techs.
• RNs required to titrate heparin drips based on aPTT results.
• Intermittent BIPAP used; no ventilator management required.
• Common diagnoses include CHF, COPD, cellulitis, pneumonia, urosepsis, AKI, and post-surgical cases (chole, appy).
• Uses EPIC EMR
• No standby or on-call requirement
• Scheduling transitioning to Qgenda system
• Provide direct patient care on a busy Med/Surg overflow unit with a diverse case mix.
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to qualify for travel pay (no local candidates)
• Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine facility must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year without a 2-year break
• All candidates interview directly with the unit manager
• First-time travelers may be considered for this role
