Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department role in Kansas. The position requires TNCC and NIHSS certifications and an active KS or Compact RN license.

You will work in a Level III trauma center with 15 beds and 2 trauma bays, treating 30+ patients daily. Responsibilities include triage duties, direct patient care in a high-acuity ED, and collaboration with physicians and mid-level providers.

Qualifications

• Active KS or Compact RN license required.
• Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Department experience required.
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, ENPC, NRP, NIHSS (all AHA where applicable).
• NIHSS and TNCC skills specifically required.
• Acute care hospital experience required.
• Driver's license copy required for consideration.

Responsibilities

• Treats 30+ patients per day with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio.
• Level III trauma center ED with 15 beds and 2 trauma bays.
• Cares for patients with common diagnoses like abdominal pain, chest pain, fever, cough, dyspnea, headache, injuries.
• Manages cardiac, antihypertensive, antiarrhythmic, sedation, and analgesia drips.

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring TNCC and NIHSS certifications in a Level III trauma center.

Requirements

• Active KS or Compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Department experience required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, ENPC, NRP, and NIHSS (all AHA where applicable)
• NIHSS and TNCC skills specifically required
• Acute care hospital experience required
• Driver's license copy required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Level III trauma center Emergency Department with 15 beds and 2 trauma bays
• Separate triage area with travelers required to perform triage duties
• Separate Psych/seclusion rooms available with 24/7 in-house security
• Treats 30+ patients per day with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Common diagnoses include abdominal pain, chest pain, fever, cough, dyspnea, headache, injury, and extremity pain
• Manages cardiac, antihypertensive, antiarrhythmic, sedation, and analgesia drips
• Uses ventilators, CPAP, BiPap, and high flow respiratory equipment
• No onsite X-ray or CT; RNs and phlebotomy both draw labs
• Charge nurse takes a patient assignment
• Night shift schedule with self-scheduling and block scheduling options
• Required to self-schedule a minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
• Holiday coverage required
• Call or standby requirements determined by nurse manager
• Floating within Zone 4 possible in cases of extreme need
• Uses Epic EMR
• Provide direct patient care for a high-acuity ED population with a wide range of acute diagnoses
• Work alongside ED physicians and mid-level providers as part of a collaborative care team
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Unit-specific orientation date and location assigned during orientation week
• Must be able to attend orientation in-state even if initial modules are completed remotely
• Must reside at least 60 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• Candidates may not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health, within the past year
• First-time travelers may be considered for this position
