Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist with 3+ years of experience for a 13-week night shift assignment in an acute care hospital setting.

You will cover inpatient and outpatient areas, work with Cerner EMR, and use Puritan Bennett 840 ventilators, BiPAP V60, and High Flow-Airvo 2 equipment. Shifts are 12 hours, with rotating 4-week schedules and no self-scheduling.

Travelers may receive housing allowances, benefits, and reimbursements, with WVU system travel rules applying.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience preferred
• RRT or CRT (grandfathered candidates accepted per WV Board of Respiratory) required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• License required if applicable
• WV CARES clearance required prior to start
• Must live within 50-mile radius of facility
• Driver's license copy required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Acute care setting covering Inpatient (MS, PCU, ICU), ER, Rehab, PACU, SNF, Endo, Cath Lab, SDS, and Outpatient areas
• Patient population includes adults, pediatrics, and neonates (excluding NICU, ER, or Peds-specific settings)
• Average 90-100 treatments per day
• Uses Cerner EMR
• Equipment includes Puritan Bennett 840 ventilators, BiPAP V60's, and High Flow-Airvo 2's
• 12-hour night shifts: 6:30p-6:30a or Mid Shift 2:15p-10:45p (5x8s per week)
• 4-week rotating schedule with no self-scheduling; scheduling requests for RTO accommodated
• Works every other weekend per schedule
• Holiday rotation required per 4-week rotating schedule
• No call or standby requirements
• No floating requirements
• Assists with intubations only; does not perform independently
• 1-3 shifts of unit-specific orientation with a preceptor as needed
• Perform floor duties including breathing treatments, ABGs, and capillary sticks for I-Stats
• Manage respiratory equipment; no EKG duties required
• Work alongside a Supervisor/Director Monday-Friday and Charge RTs on other shifts
• Never the sole RT in-house during a shift
• No in-house Hospitalist or Intensivist coverage 24/7
• Teal scrub color required; acceptable scrub pattern shirts permitted
• First-time travelers will be considered
• Returning travelers must have a 2-year break before reapplying to any WVU Medicine location
• Cumulative travel assignments within WVU system limited to one year before requiring a 2-year break
