Job summary

Intertek is seeking a Registered Roof Observer (RRO) in Fairfax, VA to join our Building Science Solutions team. The role focuses on quality assurance observations and roofing inspections during construction, with travel to project sites as needed.

Certification support is provided for the right candidates. The position requires a high school diploma, knowledge of commercial roofing systems, and the ability to produce clear site observation reports.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• RRO credential OR minimum 5 years experience in commercial roof construction and eligibility to sit for the RRO exam within 1 month (exam costs covered).
• Ability to write concise site observation reports with photos.
• Technical knowledge of commercial roofing systems.
• Must be able to work with minimal supervision and be a self-starter.

Responsibilities

• Perform quality assurance observations and monitor construction to ensure roofing projects meet approved drawings, specs and best-practice installations.
• Perform roofing installation inspections on-site.
• Assist with other exterior installation inspections as needed.
• Assist with roof integrity and building enclosure testing on-site.
• Prepare written reports for inspection and testing work.
• Collaborate with Project Managers on inspection, testing and investigative projects.
• Follow and enforce all safety requirements and company policies.
• Provide exceptional customer service.
• Review contract requirements and document deviations when authorized.
• Assist department admin in invoicing for projects.
• Learn test standards and procedures (e.g., AAMA, ASTM).
• Maintain tools, equipment and inventory; keep work area clean.
