Job summary

TotalMed RN is seeking a travel nurse RN PICU - Pediatric Intensive Care for a 13-week travel assignment in Chapel Hill, NC. The PCICU RN will provide critical care to pediatric patients with congenital or acquired heart conditions, working with a multidisciplinary team.

The ideal candidate has at least 1 year of PCICU experience and BLS/PALS certifications. Shift is 12 hours, nights, 36 hours per week, with a tax-free stipend and competitive pay package. RN licensure must be active in the state.

Qualifications

• One year of PCICU or similar CCU experience.
• PALS and BLS certifications are required.
• Must be eligible for state RN licensure.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care to pediatric patients with cardiovascular conditions, including those recovering from heart surgery or severe arrhythmias
• Continuously monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, oxygenation, and other critical parameters
• Administer medications (IV drips, blood products, sedatives) per protocol and adjust dosages as needed
• Assist with ventilator management and airway management (non-invasive and invasive)
• Assist with cardiac interventions as directed by cardiology team (IABP, external pacemakers, ECMO)
• Communicate clearly with patients' families, update on care plan and prognosis
• Respond swiftly to cardiac and respiratory emergencies and code situations
• Collaborate with pediatric cardiologists, surgeons, respiratory therapists, and other staff
• Document assessments, interventions, and family interactions in the EHR
• Educate families on post-operative care, recovery expectations, and signs of complications
