Job summary

Alaska Regional Hospital is seeking an experienced Travel Occupational Therapist (OT) to join its inpatient acute care Rehab Services team. The OT will provide comprehensive therapy to a diverse patient population and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to support recovery and safe discharge.

This role requires independent work in a fast-paced setting, with a rotating 4‑day, 10‑hour schedule that includes weekends. Prior travel or contract therapy experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Current Occupational Therapist certification/license required.
  • Previous acute care occupational therapy experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced inpatient environment.
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to rotate 4-day, 10-hour schedule including weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Provide occupational therapy evaluations and treatments for inpatient acute care patients.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and goals.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, mobility, and independence.
  • Monitor progress and modify treatment plans as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, PTs, SLPs, and care team members.
  • Document evaluations, treatments, progress, and discharge recommendations in Epic EMR.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on treatment plans, safety, and adaptive techniques.
  • Support safe discharge planning and continuity of care.

Job description

Unit: Rehab Services – Inpatient Acute Care

Shift: 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM

Schedule: 4 × 10-hour shifts per week, rotating schedule

Position Overview

Alaska Regional Hospital is seeking an experienced Travel Occupational Therapist (OT) to join its inpatient acute care Rehab Services team. The Occupational Therapist will provide comprehensive therapy services to a diverse patient population, working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to support patient recovery, independence, and safe discharge planning.

This position is ideal for an independent, adaptable therapist with strong acute care experience who is comfortable working a rotating schedule that includes weekends.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide occupational therapy evaluations and treatments for inpatient acute care patients.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and clinical goals.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, functional mobility, and independence.
  • Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, and other members of the care team.
  • Document evaluations, treatments, progress, and discharge recommendations in Epic EMR.
  • Educate patients and caregivers regarding treatment plans, safety, adaptive techniques, and equipment.
  • Support safe discharge planning and appropriate continuity of care.
  • Maintain compliance with facility policies, clinical standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Facility Type: Inpatient acute care hospital
  • Hospital Beds: 175
  • Rehab Services Staff: Approximately 60 therapy providers, including PTs, OTs, SLPs, PTAs, and COTAs
  • Typical Daily Patient Load: Approximately 8–10 patients
  • EMR: Epic
  • On-Call: Not required
  • Weekend Coverage: Required; rotating Saturday and Sunday coverage
Required Qualifications
  • Current Occupational Therapist certification/license required for the assignment.
  • Previous acute care occupational therapy experience is required.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced inpatient environment.
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work a rotating 4-day, 10-hour schedule, including weekends.
  • Alaska state fingerprinting and state background check must be cleared or in provisional status prior to starting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous travel or contract therapy experience.
  • Experience working in a hospital-based inpatient rehabilitation or acute care setting.
  • Strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Experience with Epic EMR.
