Position Details

Responsibilities and Patient Care

• Registered Nurse – PCU Ratios: 1:5 (may flex to 1:6 on rare occasions, requiring additional patient coverage)
• 1–2 years of telemetry experience required
• 24‑bed intermediate unit handling medical and surgical overflow (TURPs, laparoscopy, eye and oral surgery, diabetic teaching, wound care)
• Fast‑paced unit supporting throughput from ED and OR
• 8 weekend shifts in Saint Luke’s 6‑week schedule (F/S/S rotation)
• Telecommunications: BLS, NIHSS; Cardiac telemetry, ER holding, neuro stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown settings
• Core clinical skills: Cardiac monitoring and emergency response, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry monitoring, rapid response team coordination, endocrine/metabolic (IV insulin protocols), gastrointestinal (feeding tube care), genitourinary/renal (continuous bladder irrigation), IV therapy/port access, blood product administration, central line and peripheral line care, PICC line management, starting IVs
• Medication management: Heparin protocols, PCA
• Neurological/psychiatric: CVA care
• Respiratory: Nasal cannula oxygen, face masks, portable oxygen tank
• Professional skills: Isolation precautions, wound care, wound VAC, CBI management, tracheostomy management, eye surgery cleanup
• On‑call requirement: No
• Regular floating between departments or units may be required to meet facility needs

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of telemetry experience
• Primary Nursing Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) a plus
• Current RN license in Missouri
• Certifications: BLS, NIHSS; additional certifications in telemetry or critical care preferred
• Demonstrated competency in cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and rapid response team participation
• Experience with endocrine/metabolic insulin protocols, central/peripheral line management, and advanced wound care
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, 24‑bed intermediate unit environment
