Responsibilities

• Determines normal and abnormal components of body fluids through chemical analyses of blood, urine, spinal fluids, and gastric juices.
• Analyzes blood cells by counting and identifying them using microscopic techniques and procedures.
• Prepares blood, plasma, and platelets for transfusions by performing blood group, type, and compatibility tests.
• Processes, reads, and reports cultures from various sources, alongside antibiotic sensitivity testing and other microbiology procedures.
• Ensures the proper functioning of analyzers, spectrophotometers, colorimeters, flame photometers, and other laboratory equipment through calibration, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair requests.

Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
Position Summary:

Provides critical information for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by conducting a variety of medical laboratory tests, procedures, experiments, and analyses in accordance with established accreditation guidelines and quality control standards.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Determines normal and abnormal components of body fluids through chemical analyses of blood, urine, spinal fluids, and gastric juices.
• Analyzes blood cells by counting and identifying them using microscopic techniques and procedures.
• Prepares blood, plasma, and platelets for transfusions by performing blood group, type, and compatibility tests.
• Processes, reads, and reports cultures from various sources, alongside antibiotic sensitivity testing and other microbiology procedures.
• Ensures the proper functioning of analyzers, spectrophotometers, colorimeters, flame photometers, and other laboratory equipment through calibration, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair requests.
• Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by monitoring stock levels, anticipating needed supplies, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
• Conserves laboratory resources by utilizing equipment and supplies effectively to achieve job results.
• Provides medical technology information by addressing questions and requests from staff and healthcare professionals.
• Prepares reports of technological findings through the collection, analysis, and summarization of information.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge through participation in educational workshops, review of professional publications, and involvement in professional societies.
• Complies with all established Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement standards.
• Maintains a safe and clean working environment by adhering to infection-control and hazardous waste policies and protocols.
• Recognizes problems, identifies their causes, and implements appropriate solutions.
• Trains and orients new employees as necessary.
• Performs other related duties as required and directed.
