American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg RN for a travel assignment in Carbondale, Illinois. The 25-bed Med/Surg unit concentrates on stroke, post-op care, hospice, and varied post-operative cases, with night coverage on a 12-hour schedule.

Expect 36 hours per week, 12-hour nights, and an orientation with onboarding modules plus floor shifts. Strong Epic EMR skills are required and first-time travelers are not accepted.

Qualifications

• Night shifts include every other weekend and every other holiday.
• 11 private and 7 semi-private rooms.
• First-time travelers not accepted.

Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg RN with an active IL license and recent travel experience for a night shift position focused on stroke and post-op care.

Responsibilities

• Work on a 25-bed adult Med/Surg unit
• Primary patient populations include stroke, comfort care, hospice, and a variety of post-operative cases
• Patient assignment is typically 5-6 patients per nurse during night shifts, with occasional total care patients
• Common cases include amputations, chest tubes, drains, feeding tubes, heparin drips, wound care, altered mental status, CIWA, acute kidney injury, dialysis, and COPD exacerbations
• Utilizes Epic EMR system, and familiarity is required
• Night shift schedule with requirement to work every other weekend and every other holiday
• Orientation includes one 8-hour onboarding day for modules and policy review, followed by up to two 12-hour floor shifts
• Must be able to hit the ground running with minimal supervision
• Unit has 11 private and 7 semi-private rooms
• First time travelers are not accepted for this position
