Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an LPN/LVN for a Long-Term Care unit in Alaska. Active AK license, BLS, and prior travel experience are required. The role supports admissions, vital signs, medication administration, wound care, and patient comfort on a 4x12 shift schedule with no rotation except urgent staffing needs.

The unit has 40 beds with a 1:20 nurse-to-patient ratio. Travel and licensure reimbursements, housing allowances, and day-one benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• Must have AK license (if applicable) in hand at start.
• BLS certification required.
• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience.
• LTC experience required.
• Previous travel experience required.
• LTAC experience preferred.
• Skilled in admission of patients, vital sign monitoring, medication administration (IM, SQ, oral), NG/G tube care, foley catheter insertion, blood glucose monitoring, and wound/skin care.
• Must obtain Alaska Food Worker Certification during onsite orientation.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients and provide ambulation assistance, bathing, and mouth care.
• Administer oxygen and communicate status changes to RN/MD.
• Coordinate with RNs/MDs and document care in ECS charting system.
• May float within scope to meet facility needs including to sister facilities nearby.
• Provide patient status updates and ensure safety during shifts (4x12 schedule).
• Handle admissions, vital signs, and routine nursing duties for LTC unit.

Job description

Responsibilities

• Long-term care facility with 40 staffed beds
• LTC unit with a 1:20 patient ratio
• 4x12 shift schedule, either Days (0700-1930) or Nights (1900-0730), with no rotation between shifts except for urgent staffing needs
• Uses ECS charting system
• May float within scope to meet facility needs including to sister facilities nearby
• Responsibilities include patient assessments, ambulation assistance, bathing, mouth care, oxygen administration, and communication of status changes to RN/MD
• Free parking provided, with facility-arranged shuttle transportation to and from Anchorage at contract start and end
• Any scrub color accepted
• Must be willing to work at least 2 of the 3 major winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's)
• No more than 2 weeks of RTO considered for a 26-week contract, and all RTO requests must be submitted upfront
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
• Local candidates not accepted; permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility
• Former permanent staff may return as travelers after a 3-month waiting period
• No on-call requirements for this position
