Job Summary

American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN ICU – Intensive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Highlands, North Carolina.

Assignment Overview

• Location: Highlands, North Carolina (alternatively, Dickson, TN as noted in the assignment details)
• Specialty: ICU – Intensive Care Unit
• Discipline: RN

• Duration: 13 weeks
• Hours per week: 36 hours
• Shift: 12‑hour nights (3x12hrs)

Patient Care Responsibilities

• 6‑bed ICU located in the main building of a hospital; patient ratios primarily 2:1 with some 1:1 and 3:1 assignments
• Unit supported by 1 nurse technician
• Procedures performed include central line placements, arterial line placements, paracentesis, thoracentesis, and intubation
• Specialized equipment includes Arctic Sun and Continuous EEG monitoring; newest GE ICU monitors in use
• Documentation system: Meditech
• Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM; every other weekend required
• Float requirement to the ICU overflow unit

Qualifications & Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and PALS (AHA or ARC accepted; none may expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required for ICU RNs
• Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
• Strong critical thinking and communication skills required
• US SSN and date of birth required for consideration
• One professional reference required
• No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months

Additional Information

• Galaxy Blue or Pewter scrubs required
• Unit‑specific policies and guidelines will be provided during onboarding with the facility educator
• This facility ranks among the highest in the HCA system for quality and staff engagement
• The ICU is actively expanding its service lines and acuity; a newly approved expansion will double the unit’s capacity
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
• 13‑week contract

Compensation & Benefits

Pay package is based on 12‑hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation); tax‑free stipend amount to be determined.
