Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Cardiac Sonographer to perform comprehensive echocardiographic studies in a hospital setting, including adult and pediatric patients. The role involves reporting within 75 minutes, collaboration with physicians, and potential outreach services.

Qualified candidates will have an accredited program or degree, RDCS/RCS certification, and BLS. On-site work only; travel and scheduling may vary.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring a Cardiac Sonographer with cardiac experience to perform comprehensive echocardiographic studies in an outpatient/inpatient hospital setting.

Requirements
  • Associate's degree or graduate of a CAAHEP accredited sonography program required
  • ARDMS Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or CCI Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required
  • BLS certification required (AHA or American Red Cross)
  • Minimum of 1 year of cardiac sonography experience preferred, including adult and pediatric echo, transesophageal echo, and stress echo
  • Experience with cardiac hemodynamics, PISA quantification, strain imaging, and pediatric echocardiography (ages 5 and older)
  • Experience with Definity, Optison, and bubble (agitated saline) studies
  • Registry eligibility preferred
  • Experience with outreach services helpful
  • Knowledge of cardiac pathophysiology, diagnostic procedures, and patient care procedures required
  • Ability to scan a full echo and complete reporting within 75 minutes
  • Must be able to tolerate frequent walking, standing, pushing, pulling, reaching above shoulder level, and occasional twisting and turning
  • Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, hear at ordinary conversation level, and possess good visual acuity
  • License required if applicable
Responsibilities
  • Work in a hospital-based Echocardiography department within Cardiovascular Services
  • Adult and pediatric cardiac patient population, including neonate to geriatric care
  • Perform complete echocardiographic studies utilizing all cardiac echo imaging modalities
  • Duties include stress lab and stress echo lab procedures, outreach services, and echo interpretation collaboration
  • Uses Echo Information Management System and Epic for documentation and charting
  • 13-week assignment with a Monday-Friday schedule, varying shifts between 7:00am-5:00pm
  • No weekends or on-call required per posted schedule, though role may include evening, weekend, and holiday coverage as needed
  • Some positions require 24-hour call availability with a 30-minute response time
  • Facility may cancel up to 3 shifts per 13-week assignment due to low census
  • Function independently using critical thinking and problem-solving skills to obtain comprehensive echocardiograms
  • Collaborate with Lead Cardiac Sonographers, Advanced Cardiac Sonographers, Echocardiographers, and physicians on interpretation of findings
  • Assist in orientation, training, and education of trainees, students, and visitors within Cardiovascular Services
  • Demonstrate flexibility in learning new equipment, imaging specialties, and echocardiography procedures
  • Follow sterile procedures and isolation precaution techniques to avoid exposure to radiation, infectious hazards, and sharp instruments
  • Maintain proficiency in all required clinical competencies
  • COVID vaccination and booster required for eligibility
  • Active license required with no pending license accepted for consideration
  • On-site position with no teleworking option available
