Required Qualifications
- One year of recent experience as a CVICU RN
- Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
- Current BLS (AHA/ARC) and ACLS (AHA/ARC) certifications
Preferred Qualifications
- Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification
- TNCC, NIHSS certifications
- Other certifications or licenses may be required
Summary
The ICU Registered Nurse provides comprehensive critical care to patients in the intensive care unit, including assessment, monitoring, life‑support equipment operation, advanced treatments, and multidisciplinary collaboration to ensure patient safety and professional ethics.
Essential Work Functions
- Assess and monitor critically ill patients
- Administer complex medications and treatments
- Operate and manage advanced life support equipment
- Ensure patient safety and comfort in high‑acuity ICU environments
- Record significant conditions, interventions, and notify providers of changes
- Perform and interpret advanced hemodynamic monitoring (arterial lines, central venous pressure, pulmonary artery catheters)
- Accurately document all assessments and interventions in the medical record
- Provide education to patients and families
- Communicate closely with interdisciplinary teams
- Maintain proficiency in critical care procedures and technologies
- Adhere to strict infection control protocols
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned within scope
- Adhere to hospital safety protocols and regulatory standards
Required Essential Skills
- Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend written instructions
- Proficiency in PC skills
- Good English language communication
Physical Abilities
- Remain in stationary position, move equipment (50–100 lbs), push, pull, bend
Interpersonal Skills
- Work effectively with a variety of personnel to present a positive attitude and professionalism
Technical/Motor Skills
- Perform fine manipulation, push/pull, and move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment
Mental Requirements
- Cope with frequent contact with the general public and customers while meeting deadlines under pressure
- Work under close supervision occasionally and independently otherwise
- Handle irregular activity schedules and maintain continuous concentration to detail
